Our fuel sampling and testing service is designed to ensure the fuel and oil you are using and storing is fit for purpose. As a result, we have a fuel sampling service to help you successfully navigate the challenges posed by maintaining critical infrastructure, such as back up power generation or transportation.
Many fuel-oil distributors warn that any fuel stored for longer than 6-12 months can become contaminated. As a result, regular fuel sampling and testing – to check the quality of your stored fuel and oil – can save you time and money, therefore, protecting your infrastructure and assets.
There are three main types of contamination;
- Bacterial contamination
- Particulate contamination
- Water contamination
FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) content in fuels is continuing to rise, as a result, the risk of bacterial contamination is now greater than ever. Fuel that has been stored over a prolonged period of time – such as that used in emergency generators – is particularly at risk.
Contaminated fuel can cause damage to filters, fuel lines and injectors, therefore, testing your fuel on a regular basis can ensure your systems run effectively and efficiently when needed.
JWH Tanks fuel sampling and testing service will analyse your fuel, produce a full comprehensive report and, if needed, prescribe remedial actions to keep your fuel-oil in top condition.
FUEL SAMPLING PROCESS
The fuel sampling and testing process will be carried out by one or more of our OFTEC registered engineers. This service includes;
- A visual inspection of the tank.
- Retrieval of required samples.
- An independent laboratory analysis of samples to assess; bacterial content, ISO cleanliness, FAME content, sulphur content, water content, viscosity and density.
- A fully detailed fuel analysis report.
The report you receive uses an easy to interpret traffic light code; green indicating uncontaminated fuel with no action required, through to red indicating severely contaminated fuel with immediate action required.
As a company, we have the abilty to both advise on the results of the samples, but also use our in-house capabilities to carry out remidial actions as required. These actions could include;
- Further sampling as part of a maintenance regime.
- Dosing the fuel with additives.
- Fuel polishing.
- Tank cleaning and pipework cleaning.
- Uplifting and removal of fuel (this would be a last resort, we will always try to save the fuel if possible).
Above all, our experts are here to guide you though all options and help you find a safe and compliant solution.

WHY CHOOSE US FOR FUEL SAMPLING?
JWH Tanks have been working in the fuel and oil industry for over 50 years and have become a trusted name. Our in-house engineers are on hand to offer advice to find our clients both a compliant and cost effective solution to their fuel sampling needs. All fuel and oil samples are sent to an independent labratory, so you can be assured of impartial results.
What is the first step towards getting some fuel sampled?
At JWH Tanks we always have an experienced engineer on hand to get some initial advice. By simply calling us on 01132635163, emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or using our chat function, you can get immediate and free advice in regards to fuel sampling or any other tank related issue. From this initial discussion, we can quickly decide on the next steps for you.
Does fuel sampling often result in lots of expensive remedial works?
Not at all. As with all maintenance, preventitive action is always cheaper than corrective action. As mentioned previously, our goal is to find you a compliant but also cost effective solution to any fuel or oil related issue. We always aim to salvage your existing fuel and always offer transparent findings to all fuel sampling results, including pictures of samples, tank inspection data and labratory contact information to ensure impartiality. Your fuel is your asset and we’ll help you to get the most from it.
Will the fuel sampling process be disruptive?
Absolutely not. Our engineers are able to safely carry out their inspection and sampling works with very minimal disruption to your organisation. There is almost never a need for downtime, and certainly never any mess. As always, feel free to have a discussion with one of our team members and ask any further questions you may have.
