Above Ground Tanks

Our commercial oil tank cleaning and fuel tank cleaning services are on hand to assist in a wide variety of situations, from cleaning a tank ready for disposal or transport, through to cleaning a tank following a contamination issue.

From the moment you make your initial enquiry, you will speak directly to an experienced oil tank cleaning operative who will be able to answer your questions, prior to issuing you with a quote.

From there, that same team member will organise your oil tank cleaning quotation, either through your information or a site visit, and then begin to formulate a safe system of work.

We work very closely with our clients to ensure that not only do we provide them with a safe and cost effective service for all fuel tank cleaning and oil tank cleaning services, but also to help them in meeting their environmental obligations, once fuel and oil waste leaves their site.

Underground Tank Inspection

When delivering oil tank cleaning services on an above ground tank, the priority for us is to gain safe access and egress from the tank. Depending on the desired outcome for the tank, this can be achieved in a number of ways.

If the fuel or oil tank is to be disposed of, we can use cold cutting techniques to cut a large enough access hole into the side of the tank to allow the tank cleaner to walk in and out.

If the tank needs to be put back into service, we would require an access hatch (usually found on top) and sufficient space in order to deploy a tripod rescue system.

If the tank is cylindrical, we are able to install a scaffold platform above the tank in order to work safely.

All of this information would be gathered by our operatives during your initial enquiry to allow us to immediately provide you with an accurate quotation and a safe system of works for our tank cleaning services.

Obtaining a Quotation

In order for us to provide a quotation, we simply need to gather a few pieces of information to allow us to assess your needs. Of course, please feel free to make an initial call as we can often give you a budget figure based on our experience.

With that information, we can gain an immediate picture of your requirements, and often get a quotation back to you very quickly. The quotation will set out the work required to remove your tank, along with details of any documentation that we’ll issue to you, authorities that will be notified by us and caveats that may be required.

For over 40 years we have been offering safe, reliable and cost effective petrol or diesel tank cleaning, oil tank cleaning, oil, diesel and petrol tank removal and tank disposal nationwide. Attracting a wide spectrum of clients from The Armed Services and Local Authorities, to the Construction Industry, Independent Petroleum Retailers and Domestic Households.

Discovering you have a contamination problem in your diesel tank doesn’t mean that you are going to lose your stock of diesel. There are numerous situations that can arise from contamination in your tank, the majority of which can be fixed with a tank clean. The ideal situation would be for you to use your stock down as far as possible so that the tank bottoms can be pumped into IBC’s for the duration of the tank clean. If this isn’t possible, we can bring in a temporary holding tank to transfer your fuel. Once the tank has been cleaned, any remaining fuel can be transferred back into the tank, either by pumping directly in, or by passing it through our mobile centrifuge in order to polish it first.

This largely depends on the access and size of the tank, however an example would be that a 45,000 litre above ground cylindrical diesel tank situated in a yard, containing 3000 litres of residual product can be emptied, cleaned and re-commissioned within a day. Upon contacting an engineer, we can give you an indication of time scale once we have some basic information on your tank.

To clean and re-commission a tank, we need to be able to safe gain access to clean it. Rectangular tanks often have manhole entry points on top of the tank in the centre, thus allowing us to erect a rescue tripod above the entry point. Cylindrical tanks are slightly more complicated as the tripod cannot sit on the tank top. In this situation, we can employ an accredited scaffold provider to construct a temporary platform, thus allowing us to safely gain access to the tank. Confined space entry permits are always sought prior to entering a tank, in line with maintaining a safe system of work.
