Fuel Sampling Services

FUEL SAMPLING

Our fuel sampling and testing service is designed to ensure the fuel and oil you are using and storing is fit for purpose. As a result, we have a fuel sampling service to help you successfully navigate the challenges posed by maintaining critical infrastructure, such as back up power generation or transportation.

Many fuel-oil distributors warn that any fuel stored for longer than 6-12 months can become contaminated. As a result, regular fuel sampling and testing – to check the quality of your stored fuel and oil – can save you time and money, therefore, protecting your infrastructure and assets.

There are three main types of contamination;

  • Bacterial contamination
  • Particulate contamination
  • Water contamination

FAME (Fatty Acid Methyl Ester) content in fuels is continuing to rise, as a result, the risk of bacterial contamination is now greater than ever. Fuel that has been stored over a prolonged period of time – such as that used in emergency generators – is particularly at risk.

Contaminated fuel can cause damage to filters, fuel lines and injectors, therefore, testing your fuel on a regular basis can ensure your systems run effectively and efficiently when needed. JWH Tanks fuel sampling and testing service will analyse your fuel, produce a full comprehensive report and, if needed, prescribe remedial actions to keep your fuel-oil in top condition.

FUEL SAMPLING

FUEL SAMPLING PROCESS

The fuel sampling and testing process will be carried out by one or more of our OFTEC registered engineers. This service includes;

  • A visual inspection of the tank.
  • Retrieval of required samples.
  • An independent laboratory analysis of samples to assess; bacterial content, ISO cleanliness, FAME content, sulphur content, water content, viscosity and density.
  • A fully detailed fuel analysis report.

The report you receive uses an easy to interpret traffic light code; green indicating uncontaminated fuel with no action required, through to red indicating severely contaminated fuel with immediate action required.

As a company, we have the abilty to both advise on the results of the samples, but also use our in-house capabilities to carry out remidial actions as required.  These actions could include;

  • Further sampling as part of a maintenance regime.
  • Dosing the fuel with additives.
  • Fuel polishing.
